Inflation is a quantitative measure which refers to the constant rise in general price level. This means that a unit of currency will now buy fewer goods than before. In other words, with rise in general price level; there is decrease in purchasing power. Hence, higher inflation is often considered detrimental for the economy. However, mild inflation can benefit the economy on following grounds:
When inflation hit Zimbabwe, the borrowers (those who had to repay the loans) benefited since it was not possible to calculate the equivalence of the loan/debt in Zimbabwean dollars to foreign exchange.
Hence, it can be concluded that mild inflation is acceptable and can prove good for the economy as well.
