Linda is still working full time, and is thinking about retiring in about 10 years. She plans to have a balanced retirement of being with her family and traveling. She is active in the community and is surrounded by female friends. Linda's immediate family members live out of state. She values her friendships and she entertains once a month. She does have an uncle who is 98 year old, and she helps coordinate his care. She feels sad about his deteriorating health condition, but she is there for him, and has arranged to have a home health worker visit him three times a week, so he can continue to age in place, until he is not able to live on his own. She herself is not in need of being cared for by another individual.

Sample 2 1. Jenny Jones, age 92, is in the oldest old age range. 2. According to Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, she is in the ego integrity versus despair stage, and has resolved the psychosocial crisis with a positive outcome, showing ego integrity. She would live her life exactly the same, all over again, with no regrets, feeling she has had a good life. 3. Although Jenny is retired from her career in public health, she does have an income from a book she wrote, and receives royalty checks twice a year. 4. Her family members live nearby and visit her often. She does not have many friends. She has two female friends, who call her every few weeks. 5. Jenny does not have any elderly relatives for who she is caring. She herself needs care with activities of daily living, and has a home health worker come to her home for four hours each day.

Maria Williams is 70 years old. According to Erik Erikson’s theory of psychological development she shows signs of ego integrity. She is a retired teacher and she feels that she has lived a life of fulfillment and happiness. At present she is engaged in gardening and interior designing which she loved to do. She is active in the church where she spends one full day every week and is involved in charity and other social activities of the church. Her husband who is 75 years also supports her in her activities. She values her family life more than anything and is looking forward to visit some countries along with husband. She has a son and daughter who are living along with their spouse and children and visit them once in a week. She is sad about her daughter who lost her job and is having some financial crisis. But Maria has enough bank deposits to help her out and is confident that she will make up for her loss. Both she and her husband do not have serious health issues, but they pay visit to their family doctor and get tests done once in every three months.
