This is bromination of toluene lab, and the question asks how did the calculated moles of toluene correspond by mass and volume? if they are significantly different, which do you think is more accurate?

moles of toluene from mass= 1.58*10^-3

moles of toluene from volume= 1.08*10-3

I'm not sure how to answer this question. Any help?

experimental data: mass toluene from mass=0.146g

mass of toluene from volume= 0.0996g

volume of toluene used=0.115mL

Answer #1

Measurement of mass on weighing balance is more accurate than measurement of volume using pipette because volume is very small 0.115 mL. Most pipettes cannot measure volume accurately to more than one decimal point. 0.115 has three decimal points.

However mass of 0.146 g can be accurately measured as weighing balances help us to measure even mass in milligrams.

what is my limiting reagent, theoretical yield calculated from moles , and % yield for the synthesis of banana oil? Isoamyl acetate (banana oil) is made by the acid catalyzed reaction (fischer esterification) between isoamyl alcohol and acetic acid. sulfuric acid was used as the catalyst for the fast conversion of product from starting alcohol and acid. the catalyst only affects the rate of the reaction not the extent of the reaction. here is the data from lab: here is...
