The Davidson Trauma Scale (DTS; Davidson, 1997) is a self-report instrument that indicates the presence and severity of trauma symptoms. It is often used to detect PTSD, with scores ranging from 0 to 136, and a mean in the general population of 11 (Davidson, Tharwani, and Connor, 2002). A clinical psychologist is interested in measuring trauma in a sample of paramedics at the hospital where she works. Using the data in the table below, set up your data file in SPSS and conduct a one-sample t test to determine whether this sample scores higher than general population on the DTS. Create a histogram to display the distribution of the sample’s DTS scores.

The hypothesis being tested is:
H0: µ = 11
Ha: µ > 11
The p-value is 0.000.
Since the p-value (0.000) is less than the significance level (0.05), we can reject the null hypothesis.
Therefore, we can conclude that this sample scores higher than the general population on the DTS.

Problem Set 2: Research Scenario: In a clinic that focuses on helping victims of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST), a team of social workers wants to compare the differential effects of treatments for complex trauma. They divide 21 participants into three groups (n = 7 each) that do not differ significantly from one another in terms of pre-treatment trauma symptomology. One group receives Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), one receives Experiential Group Therapy (EGT), and one receives a combination of the...
Part 2 – SPSS APPLICATION from this week’s assigned readings and presentations (28 pts) Problem Set 1: The independent-samples t test (7 pts) Research Scenario: A clinical psychologist is studying whether there is a difference between veterans diagnosed with PTSD and veterans without PTSD in reduction of anxiety after aerobic exercise. All veterans in this study agree to complete 30 minutes of aerobic exercise 5 days a week for 4 weeks and began with similar levels of reported anxiety. Scores...
Problem Set 1: The independent-samples t test Research Scenario: A learning psychologist is interested in comparing the success of two different mnemonics (memorization methods) on performance in a memory task. He assigns students to two groups, one which learns and uses a language-based rhyming memory technique, and one which learns and uses a visual “method of loci” spatial memory technique. He then administers a memory task to each group of students. The students are scored based on the percentage of...
APA style please 1. Childhood participation in sports, cultural groups, and youth groups appears to be related to improved self-esteem for adolescents (McGee, Williams, Howden-Chapman, Martin, & Kawachi, 2006). In a representative study, a sample of n= 100 adolescents with a history of group participation is given a standardized self-esteem questionnaire. For the general population of adolescents, scores on this questionnaire form a normal distribution with a mean of u= 50 and a standard deviation of o= 15. The sample...
Future Time Orientation and Condom Use for AIDS Prevention Background Notes: Researchers administered questionnaires to male college students taking an introductory psychology course. Among other things, they measured future time orientation defined as planning ahead for future events and willingness to delay gratification. (Sample item: “I believe that a person’s day should be planned ahead.”) Based on the scores on the future time orientation scale, they split the male students into two groups – one low in future orientation and...
in comparing the engagement levels of first-year statistics students. In a previous nation-wide study, engagement levels were found to be normally distributed, with µ=60.00, σ=10.00. The lecturer collects a convenience sample of 50 first-year students and finds that her students have a mean engagement level equal to 75.54. What statistical procedure should be used, to test whether there is a significant mean difference in engagement levels between the lecturer’s first year students and the population average? a. One sample Z-test....
Part II: SPSS Application These questions require the use of SPSS. Remember you must submit all of your work within this word document. You will need to take a screen shot of your data view if necessary, or copy and paste your output into the spaces below. Remember to report the exact p value provided by SPSS output – simply reporting p<.05 or p>.05 is not acceptable (unless SPSS output states p=.000 – in that case you can report p<.001)....

this is a single sample t test problem this is math Assignment #11 Single Sample t-Test What factor determines whether you should use a z-test or a t-test statistic for a hypothesis test? 11.1 A sample is selected from a population mean of u 30. A treatment is administered to the individuals in the sample and, after treatment, the sample mean found to be M 11.2 = 31.3 with a sample variance of s2 9 If the sample consists of...
General Psychology: Clinicians at a small clinic have been introduced to a new method to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in their clients for veterans. Research indicates that virtual reality (VR) is a highly effective treatment option for patients with PTSD. Currently, the clinic uses only cognitive processing therapy (CPT) with their patients suffering from PTSD. The clinicians would like to find out whether VR therapy has different results from CPT therapy. The measure used by the clinic to measure...
