Write “True” or “False” for the following question:
a) The velocities and pressure in a turbulent flow fluctuate over time.
True,
Both velocity and pressure fluctuates over time in a turbulent flow because the turbulence is caused due to pressure gradient and due to turbulence the eddies create fluctuations in velocity. The turbulence decreases over time because of the fluctuations and loss in energy . As the pressure generates at inlet it enhances turbulence , the velocity starts fluctuating and over time the pressure fluctuations reduces results in same proportion of reduction in velocity.

True/False Turbulent flow is the smooth flow of fluid through a pipe.
True/False: v) True/False: Pressure always acts normal to a surface. vi) True /False: The fluid velocity is always tangent to a streamline. vii) True / False: Turbulent flows are not affected by surface roughness.
5) The following about turbulent flow in a pipe is true, EXCEPT a) The pipe cross-sectional average velocity is half of the centerline velocity (i.e. V=0.5V.) b) The flow Reynolds number is beyond 4100 c) The flow consists of a viscous sublayer, a buffle layer (viscous and turbulent effect both important) and a fully turbulent region up to pipe centerline d) Reynolds-averaged (time mean) velocity is used to describe flow velocity
Which one of the following statements concerning fluid streamlines is true? A. In turbulent flow, two or more streamlines may cross. B. In steady flow, the pattern of streamlines does not change with time. C. In turbulent flow, streamlines can begin or end at any point. D. Streamlines are perpendicular to the velocity of the fluid at every point. E. In steady flow, streamlines must remain parallel and equally spaced.
