According to the prototype theory, the membership into the category is based on the resemblance factor. In this theory, the structure is based on the prototype and the membership into the structure is gained based on the similarity to the prototype of the structure. In contrast, theory based view of representation is based on classifications that are based on explanatory relationships. It gives a theory about why the members of the group belong to the same structure.
Theory based view of category representation is better than Prototype based view because it takes each subject on a point by point basis and hence there are lesser chances of mis-representation into a group in which the subject does not belong. This is because there is a theoretical explanation why each subject belongs to the respected group,
