Why can our pre understanding get in the way of doing an effective research study?

pre-understanding is important while conducting research, as it comprises of explicit as well as tacit knowledge. Which is necessary in order to develop a right interpretation about the phenomenon which we are going to research.

pre-understanding can be divided into 2 phase First-hand and secondhand. The understanding which we build through our personal experience comes under first hand where as the understanding built with the help of intermediaries/other person is second hand.

Pre understanding is useful while collecting, analyzing and processing information for particular research.

• While collecting data for research our pre understanding clarifies which kind of data we need whether it's a qualitative or quantitative.
• When we analyse the data or information collected we need to go through inspecting,transforming and modeling data. When you have pre understanding of research it helps in selecting right techniques of analysis which will be a good base for processing of data.even it becomes easier to divide data into descriptive statistics, confirmatory data analysis (CDA)and exploratory data analysis (EDA).
• The processing involves dissemination of information gathered.when you have pre understanding of research it becomes easy to follow standardised procedure to disseminate the data

So the effectiveness of research mainly depends on the rate of understanding which researchers build before going for actual research. Because they have a clear understanding of what they want, where they have to search for data and how they have to use it.
