Discuss Tasmanian tiger any consequences of the extinction on the community reflecting on its trophic position and contribution to the ecosystem.
Tasmanian tigers were marsupials found in the Tasmania region of Australia. These were known as tigers due to strips found on its lower back which is similar to as found in tigers.
The scientific name is Thylacinus cynocephalus. It is an extinct species.
Their trophic position in the ecosystem was of carnivorous, means were predators.
They were carnivorous animals feeding on small animals of the area and the flightless bird. So they were helping in controlling the numbers of animals which used to feed upon the herbes, crops of that area. Due to extinction of a carnivorous animal the population of its prey increases rapidly. It damages the herbes and plant species by their excessive use as food. So it leads to imbalance in the ecosystem of that community.
Thanks.
