Answer #1

Modern law emerges as a result of the reformation movement that happens against religious orthodoxy. The rise of the modern era happened in the time of the enlightenment period when individuals started questioning the authority of the church or religion. Modern law too arises out of a careful examination of the good things which is contained in the book. However, the relationship between the law and religion remain deeply ambivalent because religion was seen as dominating and hagemonizing the rule of a few people while modern law developed out of it or against it.

The western legal concepts share with Christianity in terms of ritual, tradition, authority and universality. It was the church who first taught the Western man regarding the modern legal system. When it comes to learning about settling conflicting customs, statutes, cases, and doctrines, it was the Church or the teachings in Christianity which says that the conflict can be reconciled by analysis and synthesis. The principle of reason and conscience for the Western legal concepts were drawn from the tradition of Christianity.
