Give an example of an ethical problem and apply the ethical cycle. Be sure to explain each step.
Let us consider the government is planning on building an IT corridor in an area where there are many small businesses . The government is planning on making them vacate the land so that they can build the corridor which could give employment opportunities to many people. The land is the perfect choice for the project.
In this the moral problem would be if we take the land , the business people would lose their mode of living and if they leave the land a very good opportunity would be lost. This is the first step of ethical cycle which is the statement.
In this we cannot satisfy both the sides which means we need to do what is best for majority of the population . We would analyse which side would be benefitted the most and which would loose which becomes our second step of ethical cycle which is analysis.
We have two options . They are either we should make them vacate the land or we must leave the land and search for an alternative . This becomes our third step which is analysing the available options.
The next step involves analysis of each option we have and considering all the laws and ethical values for each option. This step would help us in coming to a conclusion on which step would be better for majority .
The final step is reflection of our choice. When we select one option we need to compensate the other side and help them in getting an alternative for their businesses. This becomes our last step of ethical cycle in problem solving .
