A coffee dispensing machine is supposed to deliver 8 ounces of liquid into each paper cup, but a consumer believes that the actual amount is less. As test he obtains a sample of 36 cups of the dispensed liquid and finds the mean content for his sample to be 7.5 ounces. If the machine operates with a standard deviation of 0.9 ounces, conduct a hypotheses test at a 0.05 level of significance as to the content of the coffee cup.

A machine in the lodge at a ski resort dispenses a hot chocolate drink. The average cup of hot chocolate is supposed to contain u = 8 ounces. We may assume that x follows a normal distribution with standard deviation r = 0.3 ounces. A random sample of 16 cups of hot chocolate from this machine had a mean content of x bar = 7.5 ounces. Problems 6 - 8: Suppose that the amount of coffee in each cup dispensed by a vending machine follows a normal distribution. A coffee vending machine is configured so that mean of all of the cups of coffee it dispenses is u = 12.0 ounces with a standard deviation o = 0.8 ounces. The mean of the distribution can be set by adjusting the filling machinery, while the standard deviation reflects the precision of the filling machinery. During a quality...
