The artist Monet said that he wished he had been born blind and then gained sight as an adult. He believed this would allow him to accurately portray light, shapes, and color in the immediate moment without contamination from previous experiences. Other artists have aspired to a similar goal of painting "unmediated" perception. What does this mean? Why do you think they aspired to this? Is it possible? If so, how?
One of the most influential factors in shaping our worldview and understanding about things present in the environment is our experience and exposure to that particular environment. This would force one to take a stand of what is best in everything including the arts. Thus, one would always try to bring out what was thrusted on them rather than on their own by creatively bring out their works. Thus, he is right when he says that he may get eye sight at the adult age because by the time one becomes an adult, one would be able to decide things on their own without the influence of anyone else from the environment. Although it is true of arts, it is also very much true of our personal life where we would be free to decide on our worldview if we are not influenced by the environment and past learning and experiences.
