a) frequency of the trait in the two populations prior to gene flow

b) why gene flow occurs

c) the consequences of the gene flow event in future generations

Answer- We observed two populations of deer which are separated from a from each other by small distance. One deer population contains many organisms having trait of tallness, while members of another population were dwarf.

After sometime gene flow occurs from population 1 to population second and the trait of tallness is transferred to second population also.

a) frequency of the trait in two population prior to gene flow-

Prior to gene flow the frequency of this trait was greater in population one and and very less or negligible in population second. Prior to gene flow population 1 contains 70% frequency of taller organisms.

b) reason of gene flow - the population 1 contains greater number of organisms with tall trait and populations are not much distant from each other. Therefore gene flow occurs due to migration of some individuals from population 1 to population 2.

c) The consequences of the gene flow events in future generations -

As a result of gene flow event the future generations of population second will have more number of individuals having tall body. Hence frequency of tallness increases in population second and reason behind it is gene flow event.
