Compare the latest initiatives coming out of Amazon with those of the actual or potential competition.
Amazon latest initiatives are amazon prime and student prime. Prime memberships get free two-day shipping and discounted one-day shipping as well as access to amazon instant video, movie, TV and music streaming and free content. The good thing about this is that there are so many various distrbutors that sell their product on Amazon . For example, I was looking for lip balm containers on Amazon, and multiple lip balm containers popped up from different distributors with different prices. It’s great being able to have multiple decision vs. having to get some containers at a specific store for a certain price. When I went to price the lip balm containers at Pat Catan’s I was only able to get a pack of 12 for 7 dollars. On Amazon, I was able to choose from different prices of containers of 12 from the price range of $4 to $12. Amazon has some reasonable prices and half the time I can find a product on Amazon cheaper than going to Walmart or target and be guaranteed to receive it in two days. Amazon prime charges 100 dollars a year for members which I feel is a great price, especially if a person shops a lot online and its good for business owners. Amazon fee is less Compared to other online stores. I rather pay 100 a year vs. spending $30 or more from other online stores for a quicker delivery outside their regular delivery time. With other online stores your paying
$30 or more for each transaction. Imagine how expensive that is if you are a person buying merchandise for your business. Student prime is even better. For college students, Amazon gives a discount for prime. Students only have to pay 6 dollars a month. The only people that wouldn’t benefit from prime is those who don’t online shop frequently. Amazon has a variety of products and different things that I usually don’t see in other stores. I could go out of town and see something that catches my eye at a store. It would often be a product that does not exist in my home time. With Amazon having a selection of products, I would look there to see if they carry the product and 90% of the time they have it, and at a reasonable price. With that being said Amazon makes it hard for other online stores.
