A simple microscope consists of two lenses as shown at below. The object is just placed outside of the focal length of an objective lens with f = 5.00 mm (5.00 × 10−3 m). The focal length of the eyepiece is f=30.0mm (3.00 × 10−2 m). The microscope is being used to image a dust mite with a size of 0.30 mm.

A. What is the angular size of the dust mite when observed with the naked eye at 0.30 m (assume this is greater than the near point of the observer)? Give your answer in radians.

B. How far from the lens should the dust mite be placed so that the image from the objective will be 0.40 m from the objective lens.

C. How far from this image should the eyepiece be placed so as make to a virtual image 0.30 m from the eyepiece lens?

D. What is the approximate overall magnitude of the linear magnification of the microscope?

E. What is the overall angular magnification?

Thank you in advance!

Experiment 22: The Compound Microscope f2 Object 2 1 (Objective Lens)d L, (Eyepiece) d#150mm The Compound Microscope A compound microscope uses two lenses to provide greater magnification of near objects than is possible using a single lens as a magnifier. The setup is shown above. The objective lens, L1, functions as a projector. The object is placed just beyond the focal point of L1 so a real, magnified, inverted image is formed. The eyepiece, L2, functions as a magnifier. It...
