Standard economic theory assumes that people behave rationally. The winner’s curse implies that people behave irrationally by paying more for an asset than it is worth. Can we reconcile the winner’s curse with rational behavior?  2-3 paragraphs in length including your own opinions and examples.

Standard economic theory assumed that individuals are rational who take into account all the available information while forming a decision. However in case of winner's curse this assumption falls flat.

In case of winner's curse the individual tend to pay more than the intrinsic value or the market price of the good. For example, paying higher tax to get clear air. This could arise due to asymmetric information, peer pressure, or social factors.

Winner's curse is an exception to the assumption of rationality. Although this situation could arise due to the preference of the individual that are more associated with the psychological satisfaction. Hence winner's curse can't be reconciled with rationality.
