Most fish and amphibians do not provide parental care, but most birds and mammals do. What is the pattern between amount of pounds of caregiving, and egg size/number? Why do you think this pattern exists?

The amount of parental care and number of egg are inversely related. If an organism provide intense parental care, the number of egg will be less. If an organism provide less parental care the number of egg will be more. There are two evaluatioary strategies like r selection and k selection. In r selection the organisms produce large number of offsprings with short lifespan. Example - fish, insects, amphibians etc. r selected species are given nearly no parental care since they are larger in number. In k selection organisms produce small number of offsprings that have longer lifespan. In k selection species are given high parental care. The probabilities of attaining maturity is very high in k selected species than r selected species.
