Keratinocytes are the major cell type of the epidermis. They constitute about 90 % of the cells. They are found throughout the epidermal strata. Once the keratinocytes leave the stratum granulosum they die and help to form stratum lucidum.They can synthesize keratin. Keratin is an intermediate filament that are produced by keratinocytes.
