Starting in 1865, Reconstruction after the Civil War ultimately failed to reform Southern attitudes toward African Americans. But for a brief moment under the period of Congressional Reconstruction, it appeared as though freed slaves might become accepted partners in American society. The long-lasting success after Congressional Reconstruction

  • All the freedmen have equal rights with whites.
  • Anyone born in the United States has equal rights irrespective of their race from birth.
  • African Americans were recognized as the citizens of the nation after the end of the Civil war.
  • According to 15 th amendment everyone has equal opportunity to vote irrespective of their race and ethnic background.
  • This upcoming helped the freed men's voice to be heard in state politics. This politically helped the Republican Party which was popular down south.
  • The major economic advantage was sharecropping which became prominent after slavery was ended. The plantation owner would provide the worker with tools, food, and shelter for which the owner would take rent by giving the worker most of the crop.
