Hi I just need to know if these statements are true or false and why!!

1. Electric field lines always point from higher to lower potential, meaning that a positive test charge would then seem to "fall" in the correct direction.

2. A student measures the potential between parallel plates A and B, and the meter reading is +30 V. The student concludes that there is a charge on plate B, but none on plate A.

3. If a capacitor is connected to a battery of fixed potential while its parallel plates are being pushed a little closer together, the energy stored in the capacitor will remain constant because the voltage is unchanged.

4. A capacitor is fully charged and then disconnected from the battery. If the parallel plates are moved slightly farther apart, the electric field between them will remain constant because the charge doesn't change.

5. Replacing air between the plates of a capacitor with a dielectric, such as benzene, will reduce the electric field between the plates.

Answer #1

1. Yes this is true.

2. This is a false statement. Both plates will have charges of equal in magnitude and opposite in sign.

3. False. The energy stored will be increased because now the capacitance of the capacitor will increase and energy stored is directly proportional to capacitance.

4. False. The electric field , E=Voltage/distance so the electric field will reduce.

5. True.
