Why can you superimpose Single Slit Diffraction and Multiple Slit Interference patterns? To get the light curve, bands from multiple slit interference are superimposed upon single slit diffraction pattern. Why? I need help understanding this concept.

suppose you have a double slit with you.Consider one of the slits. This slit will have some width and light will interfere at the edges of this slit and form a single slit diffraction. Again, light will also interfere with both the slits combined because they have very small gap in between them, and form double slit interference. The central maxima due to single slit diffraction will be much wider than the width of one of the fringes due to double slit interference and a lot many such fringes will be present overlapping the central(bright) wide single slit diffraction pattern. This overlapping is also called as superimposition. This is why light curve consists of intensities of these fringes overlapping the intensity of the central diffraction maxima.
