Simple diffusion is the diffusion or transort of lipid soluble substance across the cell membrane direclty through the membrane structure along the concentration gradient without using energy or carrier proteins.

Factors that determines the diffusion of substances are:

- Membrane permeability

- Membrane thickness

- Size of the solute

- charge on solute

- Lipid solubility of the molecule

- Temperature

- Concentration gradient

- Energy

Facilitated diffusion is a special type of diffusion that occurs with the help of special type of carrier proteins.

Active transport is the transport of the molecule across the cell membrane against the concentration gradient via carrier proteins with utilization of the energy.

Active transport requires energy and carrier proteins. It transport the molecules against their concentration gradient.

Their are two types of active transport.
