In this context, the genetic redundancy refers to the phenomenon where two or more genes are involved in the same biochemical function. In other words, there is not only one gene for a determined function, there are more than one. IN this sense, the mutation or defect of one wont promote a significant phenotypic change because there are other genes that can “supply” this absence. For this reason is why, two genes must be mutated in order to express a determined phenotype.
