Through the course of this class we were introduced to several concepts and innovations. While I took a vast amount of information from these last four weeks, I found that the role of strategic positioner hit the most with me. In my opinion, this competency opens door for not only the HR role, but also for the company as a whole. “The purpose of the various HR practices in this perspective is to influence and shape employees’ attitudes and behavior. The most effective attitudes and behavior will be context and situation dependent. In this perspective, strategic HR management should aim to utilize those HR practices that most effectively contribute to realizing organizational objectives” (Adriaenssen, Johannessen, and Sætersdal, 2016). By changing the perspective of this role, HR can change their strategic position within the key decisions. The HR role holds a behind the scenes advantage to where they can influence the company from within. There are several aspects that consumers control, but internal management can control the quality of employees that are hired as well as the direction that the company is heading.

The one area that my company could assist me is with providing adequate software with additional employees. By adding the additional personnel, I would be able to tackle more of the managerial scopes of my job. HR seems to be an area where you are often overlooked, but it’s essential to keep the company working efficiently. “In other words, HR practitioners need to expand their perspective and explore the world beyond the general HR attributes -- the overall business landscape, the clients as well as the competition. Simply put, HR practitioners must know their business from top to bottom so that they can plan strategically to ensure the organization has the right people with the right capabilities in order to stand out, acquire a competitive edge and become successful” (Talerngsri, 2014). HR has an immediate need to stand out across all companies. This department must adapt to the current atmosphere in order to remain a permanent standing in the management community.

Answer: I agree with this post. The most important role that any HR professional can play in an organization is of the “strategic positioner”. There are many scholars who have now established that the HR can play a major role in making the organizational strategy successful. HR controls the organization from inside and can enable the companies to develop right skills and competencies that are required for achieving their goals and objectives strategically through the functions like recruitment and training and development. It is therefore important that the HR strategy of a firm is in accordance to the overall strategic direction of the firm. By selecting the candidates that have right skills to implement the organizational strategies and by developing the skills in the existing staff, the HR managers can act as strategic positioner for the firm. But how this can be done practically and what are the strategies that can help the HR practitioners to achieve this remains a question.
