The dose below which no effect of a chemical is detected in an organism is defined as the threshold dose. For most of the drugs, when the dose is slightly larger than the thresold dose, desired effect can be found, but if the dose is very much higher above a certain limit, then side effects appear, which are undeirable, and continue to increase with the increase of the dose. The higher the dose is, the greater the side effect is.
