Answer #1

Cells that contain two of each of the chromosomes in a set are known as

THE CORRECT ANSWER IS B) DIPLOID

EXPLANATION

Diploid cells are cells which contain two copies of chromosomes. In humans, all the cells which make up the human body are diploid cells.

There are two types of cells seen in humans in normal conditions.

The somatic cells which make up the whole body which are DIPLOID denoted as 2n.

The germ cells which are also called as reproductive gametes are HAPLOID, denoted as n.

Humans have 46 chromosomes, that is 23pairs of chromosomes.

22pairs are known as autosomes which make up the body also known as somatic cells and one pair is sex chromosomes.

When the somatic cells divide for repair, replacement or growth, the diploid chromosomes remain in their diploid state itself forming copies of chromosomes in pairs, that is DIPLOID.

In reproductive cells, the sex chromosomes contains either XX or XY chromosomes.

XX is for female and XY is for male. For reproduction, only one chromosome from each parent is sent forward in egg and sperm making them haploid.

The two haploid cells then form a diploid ZYGOTE which makes humans having Diploid number of cells.

In the moss Polytrichum commune, the haploid chromosome number is 7. A haploid male gamete fuses with a haploid female gamete to form a diploid cell that divides and develops into the multicellular sporophyte. Cells of the sporophyte undergo meiosis to produce haploid cells called spores. What is the probability that an individual spore will contain a set of chromosomes all of which came from the male gamete? (You may assume that no crossing over occurs during meiosis.) 0 0.5...
