Frictional force acts perpendicular to the direction of the normal force. So, here friction can act on any person in the elevator only in horizontal direction. But the displacement of the person in elevator is in vertical direction only.

Hence, workdone by friction will be zero in this process as there is no displacement in the direction of the force.
