Why is the 'rule of law" so important? Can a society exist without laws? Pros and cons of the rule of law issues and give examples.

The 'rule of law' keeps in check the arbitrary use of power and authority by subjecting it into a well- defined system of rules and procedures. It is the rule of law that gives people a sense of living in a normative society and not a disorder society. Society is one of the ways or another needs law and it ensures the proper functioning and order of society. Even in the pre-modern society which is seen to be primitive have their own customary laws. However, the question is whether such laws are based on which ideals. The Rule of the Law has its Pros and Cons;

Pros:

It checks the arbitrary use of power and authority thereby making citizens enjoy their rights and freedoms.

Example: In the US, even if the president is the head of the country he cannot do whatever he wishes to- every action that he takes is made accountable.

Cons: The rule of law is a general law and it can fail to accommodate all walks of life and issues.

Example: Question of individual issues and real world issues sometimes might not come under the rule of law and ignored often times.
