Answer #1

According to me, Informational infographics are the most effective types of infographics, because these infographics increase knowledge retention and recall, along with simplifying complex concepts or ideas and offering as a visual step-by-step task guide. These are ideal for if you want to clearly communicate a new or specialized concept, or to give an overview of a topic. Descriptive headers and illustrative icons along with eye-catching color schemes help communicate each point clearly.

According to me, Resume infographics are especially ineffective because these types of infographics may be perceived as less professional. Traditions die hard. Many employers require traditional resumes because that’s what they’re used to and expect. Some employers use Applicant Tracking Systems that scans and looks for keywords to measure the applicant’s fit to the job. That type of scanning doesn’t work with infographics, which means you’re resume would be weeded out.

A lot of design and content factors contribute to the effectiveness of a particular infographic or visualizations. A few most important elements are described as follows:

  • Colors: Eye-catching colors are the key to the effectiveness of an infographic. The color scheme you choose can make or break your infographic/visualizations.
  • Fonts: As a general rule, the infographic fonts you should use depend on the infographic’s overall theme.  The infographic fonts you choose will give readers the first impression of the content and hints at how they should gauge the rest of the infographic.
  • Icons: Choosing the right infographic icons can make the difference between a verbose and winding visual, and an engaging and impactful one.
  • Images / Illustrations: Images shouldn’t ‘take over’ the infographic else you risk reducing the graphic into a patchwork of images with a smattering of text. Images can replace what would otherwise have been acres of explanations.
  • Spacing: The spacing is an important characteristic that affects text readability in an infographic/visualization.
  • Boring and uninformative Headlines: boring or uninformative headlines have a bad first impression on the content of the infographic or visualization.
