Business process improvement initiatives often include introducing new technology to support the new or changed ways of doing business. Implementing new business processes and technology can have a wide impact on an organization. Employees may experience new job roles and responsibilities. New technology can introduce new interfaces between the company and its employees, customers, and business partners. New systems can also be designed to replace people with technology. All of these factors must be considered in order to effectively manage organizational change and ensure acceptance of the changes, particularly of those who will be most impacted.

Organizations have begun to recognize the importance of developing an organization change management plan to coincide with the development and introduction of new processes and systems. Resistance to change is a normal human reaction. Fear and uncertainty about the future often fuel it. Companies should expect this and manage it with early and frequent communication to set expectations, report on progress, and seek feedback from stakeholders.

Based on your background :

  • Describe the resistance to change you anticipate in your business process improvement project.

Answer #1

When we implement any organizational change like technological change or merging for the betterment of the organization then we would definitely expect resistance to that change which is humane in nature and we can not deny that. lets take an example, where A Public government company involves in working with files and hard copies but now government has initiate a change in which all the files would be digitized from A to Z and there would be employee working using Laptops and computer system and should have the knowledge of basic software like MS office. so, In this situation we can expect that, old employees would make resistance as this sudden change created a fear of losing jobs or replaced by new and young employees. these kind of resistance reduces the effectiveness of the business process improvement project so they should be properly addressed.

The address of these issues can be done by mentoring employees and organize learning sessions by hiring IT specialist on temporary basis who can train these employees about new system change. this would help to remove fear of job insecurity in government company.
