Provide a paragraph of introduction that generally describes cognitive development over the lifespan.
Jean Piaget came up with his concept of Cognitive Development with four major stages such as, sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational. Sensorimotor where infants learn through actions and visual images and this stage lasts for the first two years. Preoperational stage from 2 to 6 years revolve around using words to understand the world. Concrete operational stage refers to the arithmetic and logical operations which lasts from 7-11. Finally, formal operation refers to the abstract uses of cognition. However, the development never stops here because one’s cognition and ability to critical reasoning is shaped through education, employment, culture, religion etc. this experience and exposure would help one build better decision making ability, reasoning ability and think abstractly.
