Create a separation scheme flow chart/diagram to isolate methyl salicylate from a product mixture containing the following: Methyl salicylate, methanol, concentrated sulfuric acid.

Lab procedure for separation:

Extract with 25mL dichloromethane. Drain the bottom organic layer into a beaker. Repeat the extraction with another 25mL portion of dichloromethane, isolate the bottom layer, and then combine it with the first dichloromethane extract. Pour the combined extracts back into the funnel and wash the solution with 25mL of water. Drain the lower organic layer, pour out the aqueous washing (through the top), then refill the funnel with the organic layer. Repeat the washing process twice more, but using 5% sodium bicarbonate instead of water. Finally, collect the washed organic layer in a dry Erlenmeyer flask. Dry the organic layer with Na2SO4. Decant the clear liquid from the drying agent into a round bottom flask and connect to rotary evaporator to remove organic solvent.

Construct a flow chart describing the seperation of the mixture and the isolation of each compound in this experiment. (Lab steps/procedures includes for reference) 4. Construct a flow chart describing the separation of the mixture and the isolation of each compound in this experiment. A commonly used method of separating a mixture of organic compounds is known as liquid-liquid extraction. Most reactions of organic compounds require extraction at some stage of product purification. In this experiment you will use extraction...

EXPERIMENT7 PREPARATION OF PHARMACEUTICALS Fischer Esterification Reactions Almost 2500 years ago, physicians such as Hippocrates recommended that patients chew on the bark of the willow to alleviate pain. The active ingredient in willow bark was found to be salicin, a compound made of a molecule of salicyl alcohol bonded to a p-D-glucose molecule. In the stomach, the bond between...
