PHYSICS Q:
Without glasses a man can see objects clearly if they are no closer than 1.8 meters from his eyes. He walks into London Drugs and tries out some glasses there that have a power of +2.3 diopters. If he wears these glasses 1cm from his eyes, what is the shortest distance from his eyes at which he can see objects clearly?
Let us assume the shortest distance is d from the lens,
using lens formula,
1/-u + 1/v = 1/f = P
1/d + 1/-(1.80-0.01) = 2.3
1/d - 1/1.79 = 2.3
d =0.35 m = 35 cm
shortest distance from eyes = 35 cm + 1 cm = 36 cm answer

A farsighted man uses
eyeglasses with a refractive power of 2.25 diopters. Wearing the
glasses 0.030 m from his eyes, he is able to read books held no
closer than 0.295 m from his eyes. He would like a prescription for
contact lenses to serve the same purpose. What is the correct
contact lens prescription, in diopters?

He would like a prescription for contact lenses to serve the same purpose. What is the correct contact lens prescription, in diopters? 1.51 and 1.46 was wrong
Without glasses, your Uncle Albert can see things clearly only if they are between 25 cm and 170 cm from his eyes. What power eyeglass lens will correct your uncle's myopia? Assume the lenses will sit 2.0 cm from his eyes. What is your uncle's near point when wearing these glasses?
Sometimes a person cannot clearly see objects close up or far away. To correct this type of vision, bifocals are often used. The top half of the lens is used to view distant objects and the bottom half of the lens is used to view objects close to the eye. A person can clearly see objects only if they are located between 40 cm and 198 cm away from his eyes. Bifocal lenses are used to correct his vision. What...
A farsighted man uses eyeglasses with a refractive power of 2.10 diopters. Wearing the glasses 0.030 m from his eyes, he is able to read books held no closer than 0.270 m from his eyes. He would like a prescription for contact lenses to serve the same purpose. What is the correct contact lens prescription, in diopters? I keep getting 1.637 but now I believe the answer is 1.75768. Is 1.75768 correct?
