Now suppose that the battery is removed and replaced with an ammeter. No current will flow through the wire because there is no energy source. Consider what will happen when a barmagnet is pushed toward the coil as shown in the figure below. When the coil "feels" the changing magnetic field caused by the approach of the bar magnet, it will thereby become energized; a current will begin to flow through it, and the ammeter will register that current. This current is called an induced current because it has been induced by the person pushing the bar magnet toward the coil. With a current, the coil once again becomes an electromagnet. To determine which end of the coil is north and which is south, a right-hand rule can't be used because the direction of the current is not known. To determine which end is which, Lenz's law isused -- the induced coil current will oppose the motion of the bar magnet. Since the bar magnet is being pushed toward the coil, the coil will push it away. In thefigure below which end is which? (Hint: like poles repel.)

A. Both ends are north poles
B. Both ends are south poles
C. The north pole is on the right and the south pole is on the left.
D. The north pole is on the left and the south pole is on the right.
