Though the work of a firefighter is nonprofit in nature and an employee is willing to volunteer for a good cause, the employer is bound to pay him /her because it us the same work he /she has been employed to do. Has it been some other occasional work not related to the regular duties of the person, the employer could choose not to offer compensation.
