Exploratory research is research that is conducted to game ideas and insights to help define the problem or opportunities confronting a manager. Exploratory research is mainly for ideas to be more clearly defined. Exploratory research problems do not lead to conclusive answers. Exploratory research is not designed to come up with the final answer or decision. Exploratory research is better known as having a better idea on what you are researching. Exploratory research involves a hypothesis. Exploratory research should be used on a small scale because there should only be a limited amount of time for this type of research. Researchers can't afford to devote a whole lot of time on extra Exploratory research because it can take away from other types of research. Exploratory research is also very flexible. It is flexible because there are many different methods for gaining insight and developing hypothesis when using exploratory research. Exploratory research is usually never uses detailed questionnaires. Researchers use a different amount of methods. They also like to change methods to see what other types of answers they can get. Different types of exploratory research includes a literature search, depth interview, and focus group.
