Adapting to demographic changes

Demography is study of statistical data such as income, births, deaths, or overall health, which reflect changing pattern of human population. Demographic changes define the changes in demographic factors over time. They include change in age structure, living condition, health condition, and other social factors within a demography. It is very important for any society or business to adapt according to continuous demographic changes to be prepared in long run. Recent changes in population structure, such as ageing, urbanization, migration, growing health risks, and shrinking labor force are important factors that shape economies and consumer market across the globe. This highlights need for organisations to adapt to changing demographic trends in order to stay relevant.

Societies and businesses strive to adapt to these demographic changes. Rising migration has made consumer markets globalized and interconnected. They create new opportunities for organization as immigrants have demand for goods that caters to their needs. Similarly, increased health risks have made people change their living habits and dietary preferences. Organizations are focusing on automation keeping in mind ageing population and shrinking birth rate around the globe. Change in demographic factors have wide ranging impact on economy, labor market, pension system, consumption pattern, and industry. Therefore it is very important that businesses adapt to this ever-changing operating environment.

Affirmative Action Program

An Affirmative Action program consists of policies, procedures, and practices that contractor need to implement in order to ensure that everyone receives equal opportunity for selection, advancement, recruitment, and other privileges associated with the job. The motivation behind Affirmative Action program is to establish fair practices in order to provide equal access to employment opportunities. The purpose is creation of a work force that is true reflection of demographics of qualified available work force. With regard to Institutions of Higher Education, and affirmative action program refers to policies and procedures with regard to admission which provide equal access two groups which have been underrepresented or historically excluded. The purpose is to provide equal opportunity to everyone without any discrimination and bias on the basis of applicant belonging to different caste, creed, color, ethnic minority, gender and others.

Valuing differences and awareness-based diversity training

Diversity training refers to any program which facilitates positive inter-group interaction, reduces discrimination and Prejudice, and promotes diverse set of individuals to work together and coherently. Organisations use diversity training to build a diverse and harmonious workplace environment. Diversity training help people respect different culture, choices and preferences. It also changes people's attitude and behavior towards others. In conjunction with other diversity related initiatives it helps create unification and homogenization of a relatively diverse work environment.

Effectiveness of awareness-based diversity training programs

Awareness based diversity training programs are very effective as they help employees understand customs, tradition, values, and culture of of people belonging to different background. The process is effective as it helps employees learn and respect different cultures by gaining awareness about their customs and lifestyle. It helps foster and environment of mutual respect and understanding between people belonging to different background.

Organisations today have a diverse workforce consisting of people from different backgrounds. Therefore, it becomes important for them to know and respect each other in order to work together in an effective manner. Diversity training helps build workplace diversity and promotes understanding between employees. In the present scenario of globalization it is very important that it or organisation promote awareness based diversity training in order to remain competitive and productive.
