Critically analyze the scope and impact of process improvement and assess whether you have a readiness for developing business development through continuous process improvement. Any specific examples of prior personal or professional experiences?
I have considered a lean six sigma process improvement project, Project is divided into two parts:

COMPANY’S PROFILE: Sunlight is an inverter manufacturing company. It assembles inverters for domestic and industrial use. It has one assembly line to produce an average of 2500 inverters per day with the maximum capacity of 4000. All the components are mounted on the PCB and soldered using an automatic wave- type of soldering machine before inspection. PROBLEM: The company is facing problems in soldering. The machine causes large number of soldering defects of the order of 640100 PPM in an year. This kind of magnitude of the problem requires five inspection stages post - auto soldering. After the inverter PCBs are passed through the Auto Soldering Machine (SMC), there are 3 operators for retouching the solder joints. Then there is an In- circuit tester to test for all electrical defects including solder joints. The PCB is then passed through Chassis inspection stage and finally through the assembled inverter inspection stage.
The high defect rate causes lots of unnecessary expenses to the organization. One of the Green Belts was asked to take up a project to reduce the defects by at least 60%. He was given a time frame of 6 months to prove himself. |
The Six Sigma project identified is “To reduce the soldering defects by 60%”
Project Scope and Goal statement: Problem Statement: High soldering defects in inverters resulting in poor quality and loss of productivity thus, Objective is to reduce the Defect rate by
60%, that is from 640100 ppm to 256040 ppm,
Impact with Business case and benefits:
Business case:
Benefits:
Expected Tangible Benefits
Other Benefits:
Less process defects
Less field fields
Better customer satisfaction
Reduction in cycle time
Increase in productivity
Reduction in WIP (work in progress)
To assess the readiness which will help to prepare correct response strategies for developing business development through continuous process improvement, first I have prepared SIPOC, and followed by Cause and effect diagram and FMEA,
FMEA:
Preparation of various Potential X, those need essential care for this continuous process improvement project
Machine parameters
Machine maintenance
Raw material quality
AI clinching
Skill
Air pressure
Soldering iron
Cooling time
Wave height
Impurities
Design
Further to implement the project and considering the project readiness, we need to consider Project budget, Resources and their ability, Time constraints, all these will be helpful for increasing probability of success towards continuous process improvement project,

Business process improvement initiatives often include introducing new technology to support the new or changed ways of doing business. Implementing new business processes and technology can have a wide impact on an organization. Employees may experience new job roles and responsibilities. New technology can introduce new interfaces between the company and its employees, customers, and business partners. New systems can also be designed to replace people with technology. All of these factors must be considered in order to effectively manage...

Continuous Improvement is a philosophy that seeks to make never-ending improvements to the process of converting inputs into outputs. The Japanese manufacturer, as well as service providers, have long used this concept. Kaizen is the Japanese word for continuous improvement. Whilst there are several definitions of quality, ultimately it is about satisfying needs and expectations. TQM attempts to maximize the organization’s performance through continual improvement of its products, services, processes or people. TQM supports an organization’s drive to become globally...

Read the following case study Best Hospital is a 325-bed suburban commimity hospital that has just merged with a local major academic medical center, the University of Excellence Medical Center (UEMC). There are 15 hospitals in the UEMC system, ranging from small rural hospitals with 50 or fewer beds to large multiple specialty tertiary referral hospitals. Two hospitals in the system have achieved magnet states and several hospitals are working to achieve this status. Within the UEMC system, a high...
Case study 10 Establishing a capability for continuous quality improvement in the NHS BACKGROUND AND HISTORY In March 2009 County Durham and Darlington Community Health Services (CDDCHS) formu- lated a strategy to improve patient outcomes, safety and service efficiency by developing and implementing a large-scale quality improvement programme across the organization. CDDCHS was the primary care provider for a large, semi-rural area around Durham and Darlington, serving a diverse community of around 600,000 people across the region. The CD&DPCT employed...

In a previous module, you analyzed the United States. Even though the great recession originated in the US, it had world-wide repercussions for years to come, for this reason often also called the Global Financial Crisis (GFC).
