2, List and explain the Exceptions to a Search Warrant.
1. Katz v. United States (1967) extended the Fourth Amendment's
"unreasonable searches and seizures" protection to include
recordings of conversations, not just personal effects.
2. California v. Greenwood (1988) established that items set out in
a public space will not be granted the Fourth Amendment right to
require a search warrant before searching or seizing that
property.
3. United States v. Ross (1982) extended the automobile extension
to the fourth amendment warrant requirement, allowing the police to
conduct a warrantless search of a vehicle when they have a probable
cause.
4. Terry v. Ohio (1968) established that police encounters of
stop-and-frisks do not constitute a violation of the Fourth
Amendment’s prohibition on unreasonable search and seizure.
5. United States v. Jones (2012) established that installing and
using a Global Positioning System device to monitor the vehicle's
movements constitutes a search under the Fourth Amendment.
6. Mapp v. Ohio (1961) ruled that evidence obtained in violation of
the Fourth Amendment is inadmissible in state courts.
7. United States v. Leon (1984) changed the Fourth Amendment
exclusionary rule to allow an exception, which permitted evidence
that was obtained in good faith by a police officer.
8. Herring v. United States (2009) decided that the good-faith
exception to the exclusionary rule applies when a police officer
makes an arrest based on an outstanding warrant in another
jurisdiction.
