Answer #1

Answer: (8) In structure 1 , there is CO at 1st position and there is H and OH at alpha position , for conversion of 1st structure to 2nd , Base (B:) will abstract H+ from the alpha position and simultaneously carbon carbon double bond will form followed by protonation of C=O by H-B .

Conversion of (2) structure to (3) , Now base (B:) will abstract H+ from the enol OH which on rearrangement give structure (3) . So, (1) to (3) is the conversion of aldose to ketose .

(Arrow pushing mechanism is shown in the image attached)

Answer (9) : Base (B:) will abstract beta H (marked in image) to initiate retro aldol reaction , due to this retro aldol ,one molecule of glyceraldehyde phosphate and one molecule of carbanion generated , this carboanion is stabilized by resonance which on rearrangement give acetone hydroxy phosphate molecule .(structure of both the product obtained is shown in the image attached)

Answer 9(b): To allow retro aldol consedation in 9(a) , isomerisation in question (8) is necessary because after isomerisation of (1) structure of 8 , ketone will come at 2nd position , which is electron withdrawing group and can stabilize carbanion generated after attack of base onto beta hydroxy H , due to enolate formation , reaction speed up and 2 molecule both containing equal carbon can be generated.

**(left structure)****(right structure)** The two structures for the assignment are above and the task is: 1. Perform a retrosynthetic analysis on the two target molecules assigned to you. In each case the organic starting material (what you have to work backwards toward) depends upon the target. For the structure given above (structure on left), the starting material is either malonic ester or acetoacetic ester and any halide. For the structure given above (structure on right), the starting material is any...

Can you help me identify reagent (i), Compound 8 and Compound 12 in the reaction scheme? You have laboratory data on all the compounds in the synthesis, however the amount of data available to you varies. Some have the entirety of the spectral data, others have as little as the elemental analysis. Use the laboratory data to help you discover which reaction has been performed. The lab data for Compound 8 and 12 is as follows: You can use any...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
