HLB = 7 + $\Sigma$ (hydrophilic group numbers) - $\Sigma$ (hydrophobic group numbers)

sum of Hydrophilic group numbers = 1.9 (OH) + 0.33X 10 (CH₂CH₂O) + 1.9 (OH) = 7.1

Sum of hydrophobic group number = 0.475

HLB = 7 + (7.1) - (0.475) = 13.625 = 13.6

2) CH₃(CH₂)₁₃COOK
