Answer:

Yes, it is surely a concern.

Cultural Imperialism is an act in which a more influential civilization imposes its set of cultural values on the less influential one.

Let's see an example of a developing country India and Developed nation USA. Here, the USA is obviously an influential civilization, influencing India.

The industrial revolution and subsequent globalization have bought the two countries closer. Globalization has led to an exchange of ideas between the two countries. As a result, a more influential American civilization has immensely influenced the Indian civilization. Following are the changes occur in Indian civilization:

1) The USA being the influential one started attracting the Indians to its Ideas. Indians fascinated by US culture, started following it blindly. They started doing unscientific things just to imitate the US people.

E.g: The climate in the US is a cold one. Hence, obviously, they prefer thick cloths like Jeans to save themselves from the cold. Indians also started to use jeans just to imitates them, although India is a tropical country with a humid climate. It's very unscientific.

2) People in India started doing unscientific things, started inheriting ideas which are inconsistent with the environment they are living.

E.g.: Indians have a healthy lifestyle characterized by Ayurveda and Yoga. But, people inclined more towards allopathy due to heavy market strategies by western companies. Allopathy has very strong side effects and it is quite expensive too. This has led people to be with lots of tablets in their kitty and also they are becoming economically weak. Had they followed Yoga and Ayurveda practices, it would have been much better for economically poor people in India. Allopathy is surely important, but its excess use facilitated due to marketing by pharmaceutical companies have made the matter worse.

Thus, from the above examples, cultural imperialism makes the civilization to do the things which are against the basic principle, necessities of that civilization. It takes civilization away from its main course and in the worst case, it can lead to the collapse of a civilization.

Hence, cultural imperialism a concern in media globalization. On the other hand, the exchange of cultural ideas between the two communities should be welcomed so that bad things from each civilization will be eradicated and good things will be installed. But, cultural imperialism is not a good thing.
