Answer #1

1. Cross linked Dextran gel is marketed under the trade name Sephadex and is employed in gel filtration or size exclusion chromatography

Sephadex is prepared by cross-linking of Dextran with epichlorohydrin and by varying the composition the degree of cross linking can be varied for size specific applications.

Dextran is a complex branched polysachharide derived from polycondensation of glucoseCubot tH It 1H 0W он H OH a H

answer 1-4 Polymers are large molecules that exist in chains composed of smaller repeating units called monomers. They can come in many forms according to substitution patterns and functional groups. Linear polymers have the monomers repeated in just one line. Cross-linked polymers are branched. Linear polymers have just two ends. Cross-linked have more than two ends. If more than two functional groups (reactive sites) are present in the monomer, the monomers may connect to each other by cross-linking to form...

    1. Which of the folowing statements about glucokinase and hexokinase (that catalyze the same reaction) is TRUE? A. Glucokinase has a higher capacity than hexokinase to convert glucose to glucose 6 phosphate B. Hexokinase is only active in the liver where it can utilize multiple hexoses C. While glucokinase requires ATP for its action, hexokinase requires GTP D. Glucokinase can act on multiple glucose-like sugars (such as galactose) E. Hexokinase has a higher Km and easily handles all the glucose...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
