What do monochromators produce from a continuum source?

                                              Monochromator will produce monochromatic light by absorbing all wavelengths except characterstic wavelength. Other monochromators based on interference technique called as interference filters. Few monochromators based on based on dispression of light and diffraction of light.

Components of Czerny Turner monochromator.

                                                     It consists of two concave mirrors and plane diffraction grating.

What is diffraction grating and order of diffraction.

                                                     Diffraction is the property of wave exhibited when wavelength is comparable to dimensions of obstacle. Diffraction grating is component which exhibits diffraction phenomenon when wave incident on it. When chromatic light is incident on grating it will diffract forms spectrum for one order, for another order entire spectrum will be formed
