Crop yields per acre depend on many variables, but two obvious ones are fertilizer and weed control. In an effort to test the effects of various levels of fertilizer and of herbicide, researchers selected six plots of land and subdivided each into eight pieces. Each of the eight pieces of each plot was treated with one of the eight combinations of fertilizer (none, light, moderate, heavy) and herbicide (none, some). The per acre yields of each piece of land are recorded below: In the data, levels of fertilizer are 1 (none), 2 (light), 3 (moderate), 4 (heavy) and levels of herbicide are 1 (none) and 2(some) Give a statement to be tested, identify the random variables involved and the assumptions you make about them, state the hypotheses to be tested, ask SPSS to run the analysis for you, including a post hoc, and then discuss the outcome. Describe the critical region(s) upon which you base your decisions. Include any SPSS output in your discussion.

Problem 1-1 A farmer owns 450 acres of land. He is going to plant each acre with wheat or corn. Each acre planted with wheat yields $4000 profit, requires three workers, and requires two tons of fertilizer. Each acre planted with corn yields $2000 profit, requires two workers, and requires four tons of fertilizer. There are currently 1000 workers and 1200 tons of fertilizer available. To hedge against risk, the farmer wants to sure that the acres of wheat do...

Both the quality of the conversation and the misattribution of arousal on the date influence romantic attraction. Researchers examined the individual and combined effects of both of these factors. Participants went on a date that consisted of either a walk on a paved path in the woods (“standard” date) or Zip-lining and walking across a very high rope bridge (“adventure” date). At dinner following the activity, the conversation quality was either “average” (pleasant but superficial) or more exceptional in which...

A study measuring academic success in ESL students randomly sampled 100 Spanish speaking ESL students using traditional ESL classes and the new language tool and 81 Portuguese speaking ESL students using traditional ESL classes and the new language tool, and scored them on a common English fluency scale (higher score representing greater degree of fluency). The researchers suspected...

  • Except for a few pigeons, Central Park was deserted

Except for a few pigeons, Central Park was deserted. Mist hung above the chilled grass. Patches of old snow, scattered here and there, looked like white puddles. The sun hung just above the horizon, casting red and orange streaks across low-hanging clouds. The portly, gray-haired gentleman jogging down the path looked out of place. For one thing, he was dressed in ordinary street clothes, not a sweat suit. Also, every few seconds, he looked anxiously back over his shoulder. Coming...
