probability of high income = sum of probabilities in row 3

= 0.40

c.)

probability of low education = sum of probabilities in column 1

= 0.20

d.)

p(HI U LE) = 0.40+0.20-0.08 as 0.08 is being counted twice

= 0.52

e.)

now if two events are independent there intersection probability must be zero

but here probability of low education with high income = p(3,1)

= 0.08

so these events are not independent

e.)

now for independent X and Y , p(i,j) should be equal to p(j,i)

but its not the case here so X and Y are not independent
