Importance of error-checking mechanisms during replication: error-checking mechanism of replication that detects and remove copy errors.base selection , proof reading and mis match repair. it is a rare for copyerror to pass through all three stages without being corrected. the neat geometry of dna helix play an important role in detection of errors. correct pairs A with T G with C fit snugly in the dna helix.in correct pairs do not.distortions to the helix caused by damage or mispairing under-lies each of the three error checking stages of replication, in the absenece of error checking mechanism genetic variation is introduced through mutation.
