PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION

A plane is being examined by a mechanical engineer. The plane can either be in one of the following states: operational or non operational. Say that the engineer knows the probabilities for the operational and non operational states of the plane. What PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION would you recommend that would analyze the likelihood of the plane to be operational for 6 out of the upcoming 7 days? Please explain your answer...

Answer #1

Probability Distribution to be used:

Binomial Distribution

n = 7

p = Probability for the operational state of the plane

q = 1- p = Probability for the non - operational state of the plane

P(X=6)=\binom{7}{6}\times q^{1}\times p^{6}=7(1-p)p^{6}

    Can someone do 2,6,8,12 34 Exercises 187 EXAMPLE 7 GETTING FIVE HEARTS Find the probability of being dealt five bearts SOLUTION The sample is the same as in Example 5. The event consists of all pos- hands that include five hearts and no non-hearts This involves cltegories (hearts and non-hearts), so we will use the Fundamental Count- hinciple and multiply the number of ways of getting five hearts and the sible number of ways of getting no non-hearts There are...

    In a study of 380 diabetics and nondiabetics, patients were classified as underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese according to their diabetes status. The probability of being normal weight is 0.31 and the probability of having diabetes is 0.39. If you select two individuals from the population, the probability of being diabetic and normal weight is 0.09. What is the probability that either of the two randomly selected individuals (or both) will be diabetic or normal weight? a. Pr (diabetic...

    Prenatal Screening test Prenatal screening is a non-invasive type of testing that is available to all pregnant individuals in Ontario. Non-invasive means that there is no risk to the pregnant person or the baby. Screening uses ultrasound, blood work or some combination of both to get information about the likelihood of a baby having a specific health condition. Screening tests do not tell you for sure if the baby has the condition, only what the chance is. A physician will...

    2. (2   True-False. Just say whether each statement is True or False – no need to justify your answer. 1. If the number of trials in the binomial distribution increases by 1 (and P equals .50), the probability of getting either of the most extreme possible outcomes (that is, 0 or N) is cut in half. 2. If the number of trials in the binomial distribution increases by 1 (and P does not equal .50), the probability of getting either of...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
