A consulting company submitted a structural design project and they want to be insured by XYZ Insurance Company. XYZ Insurance Company then ask their internal Engineering department to do an engineering analysis to check if the project is worth insuring. Your team has been tasked to perform al acceptable engineering analyses, and most importantly to come up with the acceptable diameter of the pipe. The structure consist of an L-shaped solid cylindrical tube with loads as indicated in the drawing. The material of the structure is made of stainless steel. In order to meet the NY state safety requirements, a factor of at least 2 is required. The structure must not have a deflection greater than 0.1 inch at point B. 3000 Ib TA 3.5 ft 2.5 ft 1000 b Project Scopes. In your analysis, you must provide the following 1. Free-Body diagram(s) 2. A better way to design these things are by using hollow shafts . Whenever direct stress is not too large and we have to design for rigidity criterion we would like to concentrate more mass away from neutral axis . So that I or J value comes larger with less material consumption.
