Answer #1

Answer 14.

A pollinator is usually an animal which transfers pollen from the male anther of a flower to the female stigma of a flower. This brings about fertilization of the ovules in the flower by the male gametes from the pollen grains.

Insect pollinators consists of bees mainly honey bees, solitary species, bumblebees; pollen wasps (Masarinae); ants; flies consisting of bee flies, hoverflies and mosquitoes; lepidopterans, both butterflies and moths; and flower beetles. Vertebrates, usually bats and birds, including some mammals like monkeys, lemurs, possums, rodents and some lizards also pollinate some plants. As for the birds that pollinate, some of them are humming birds, honey eaters and sun birds etc; these birds pollinate a number of deep-throated flowers. A part of pollination could also be carried out by humans. Such pollinations are artificial in nature.

A pollenizer is a plant which is the source of pollen for the pollination operation.

Non-insect methods of pollination consists of pollination by bats, birds, wind, and water.

Angiosperms depict two types of fertilization where a zygote and endosperm are both produced. Double fertilization consists of two sperm cells; one of which fertilizes the egg cell to develop a zygote, while the other one joins with the two polar nuclei that create the endosperm.

Answer 15 :

A peanut is a legume and not a nut. It belongs to the family of beans and peas because it is an edible seed which is confined in a pod. Legumes are generally treated to be the best source of concentrated protein which is found in the plant kingdom. Peanuts grow under the ground. Peanuts are opposed to nuts like walnuts, almonds, etc. which grow on trees and these are botanically considered drupes.

Answer 10 :

Monocots differ from dicots in four different structural features, which are, leaves, stems, roots and flowers.

But, these differences start from the very starting of the plant's life cycle: the seed. Inside the seed is present, the plant's embryo. However in monocots only one cotyledon (vein) is present and dicots have two. This minute difference at the very start of the plant's life cycle leads each plant to develop huge differences.

Monocots have “fibrous roots” that grow in many directions. These fibrous roots absorb the upper level of the soil as compared to dicot roots which dig deeper and create thicker systems.

Dicot roots also consist of one main root called the taproot, where other, smaller roots branch off.

As the monocots grow, their stems arrange the vascular tissue (the circulatory system of the plant) sporadically. This is uniquely compared to dicots’ organized way that moves the tissue into a donut-looking structure
